Useful life & maintenance
On average, razor wire can last for up to 20 years. The most common external disturbance that affects its longevity is growth of tree branches around it and branches falling over it.
A common question we get is “Does razor wire rust?”. The razor wire that we install does not rust because its made from galvanised wire.
Razor wire alternatives
The most common alternatives in our market are electric fence and steel spikes. We wrote an article highlighting the major strengths and weaknesses of each option here. In summary our recommendation was that; install at least one of the 3 as they are all useful. If you can install a combination that would be better. Because you would have counteracted the weaknesses of each individual option.
What is the difference between concertina wire vs razor wire?
Concertina wire is wire that is shaped in an almost cylindrical fashion. The word concertina is inspired the concertina instrument. See image below. So concertain razor wire is shaped in a similar fashion. There are other shapes; the most common in our market is “flat wrap” which we usually install on gates.
What is the difference between barbed wire vs razor wire?
We use barbed wire for fencing. We have included images below of barbed wire and a fence made from barbed wire. Whereas with razor wire we install it on top of walls and fences
